Lifelong Learning and the Globalisation of Education

Ms Hélène Clark has been Director in the Directorate-General for Education and Culture, responsible for "Lifelong learning: policies and programme" since 1 November 2008. She graduated in Political Sciences and Public Law at the University of Bordeaux (France) and in European Economics at the College of Europe, Bruges (Belgium). She entered the European Commission as an official in 1988. She spent a number of years in DG "Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities", where she was mainly involved in employment policy, in charge successively of EURES and European Employment Services, of the European Employment Strategy, and of the implementation of the European Social Fund in Austria, Germany and Slovenia.
Professor Elizabeth Deane is currently Pro-Vice Chancellor with special responsibilities for students at the Australian National University, Canberra. Prior to this and for over 20 years she held a number of academic leadership positions including Foundation Head of Department of Biological Sciences; Head of School of Sciences and Interim Dean of College of Science and Technology at the University of Western Sydney (1989 – 2000) and Dean of Division of Environmental and Life Sciences at Macquarie University, Sydney (2000 – 2008).
Ms Jennifer Taylor has recently been appointed as Acting Deputy Secretary Office of Early Childhood Education and Child Care. Prior to this appointment Jennifer was the Group Manager of the Tertiary Frameworks Group at the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). She was also previously the Chief Executive of the statutory agency, the Australian Fair Pay Commission Secretariat, located in Melbourne.
