José Saramago -100 Years: Screening of "José and Pilar" and Exhibition

Join us on Thursday for a special screening of: "José and Pilar – The days of the Nobel Prize Winner José Saramago and his wife Pilar del Rio"
When: Thursday 2nd November 2023, 5.30pm
Where: RSSS Auditorium, 145 Ellery Crescent, Acton 2601, ACT.
Directed by Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, the documentary José e Pilar portrays the relationship between Portuguese Nobel Prize winner for Literature José Saramago and his Spanish wife, journalist and translator Pilar del Rio during the writing process of Saramago’s novel The Elephant's Journey.
We will also launch the exhibition: "José Saramago 1922-2022: retracing the steps that were taken", which traces Saramango's personal and literary career. It represents a “journey” oriented towards reading and re-reading Saramago, as suggested by a passage in Journey to Portugal: “It is necessary to retrace the steps that were taken, to repeat them and to plot new paths alongside them.”
