Please note: There has been a change in date for this event. The 2021 Schuman Lecture will take place on Monday 22 November.

The ANU Centre for European Studies, with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, is delighted to present this contribution to their Schuman Lecture Series to be delivered by Ms Lynette Wood.

As 2021 draws to a close, communities around the world face many and varied challenges requiring fresh and innovative responses. In September 2021, the EU announced its Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. Australia continues to be a significant actor in this region. In this year’s Schuman Lecture, Ms Lynette Wood, incoming First Assistant Secretary, Europe and Latin America Division, will consider the roles that Australia and the European Union play – individually and together – in developing and delivering responses to prevailing challenges in the region and further afield.

Ms Lynette Wood was the Australian Ambassador to Switzerland, Germany and Liechtenstein from 2016 to 2020. In Canberra, Ms Wood was First Assistant Secretary, International Division with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). She has served as Assistant Secretary, Middle East Branch and Executive Branch at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Ms Wood holds a Master of Arts (International Relations) from the Australian National University, a Graduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Sydney.

This year's lecture will be an online only event. This event is free and open to the public, however please note registration is required.

Question & Answer Session
At the completion of Ms Wood's presentation, there will be an opportunity to ask questions. We kindly ask you to please submit your questions prior to the Lecture. Questions can be submitted upon registration, or you can email europe@anu.edu.au with the details by 5pm AEDT Thursday 18 November 2021.

The event is part of the ANUCES Jean Monnet project “Third Country Engagement with Changing EU Trade Policy”.
