Horizon 2020: Research Collaboration with the European Union

The ANU Centre for European Studies hosted this information seminar on the Horizon 2020 research funding program, for ANU staff. Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever, with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020).

The seminar explored long term research collaboration opportunities with Europe, and the larger benefits of international collaboration, in order to assist ANU researchers and research managers to identify and develop research links with Europe.

The event was led by Dr Rado Faletič, Director, Projects and Communications, Montroix Pty Ltd. Dr Faletič was joined by Prof. Jacqueline Lo, Dr Katherine Daniell and other ANU researchers who have been successful in research schemes funded by member-states, including Germany and France.

Dr Faletič is Australia’s foremost expert on the EU’s research and innovation program, Horizon 2020, and is co-owner of Montroix Pty Ltd, a consultancy that provides support for the international research engagement efforts of governments and institutions across the region and internationally. He was previously the Executive Director of the Forum for European-Australian Science and Technology cooperation (FEAST), a joint EU-Australia initiative to facilitate research collaboration between Europe and Australia, and has been a participant and adviser to numerous other international research initiatives.

Prior to the Horizon 2020 seminar, ANUCES co-hosted a seminar on research and study opportunities in Germany for Australians, with representatives from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers, funding over 100,000 persons per year. Since its foundation in 1925, DAAD has funded the academic mobility of over 2 million scholars around the globe. For this seminar ANUCES welcomed Professor Dr Joybrato Mukherjee, President of Justus, Liebig University Gießen, and Vice-President of DAAD, and Mr Stefan Bienefeld, Head of Division Development Cooperation and Transregional Programmes, DAAD. After the public seminar, our DAAD guests met with ANU representatives to discuss future collaborations with Germany.

The slides from the DAAD seminar are available here (PDF 2.5MB)
