The ANU Centre for European Studies together with the Delegation of the European Union to Australia hosted this invitation-only, Chatham House rule conference.

The event brought together academics, diplomats, and representatives from think tanks and intelligence and policy communities, including panels featuring European Union Ambassador to Australia HE Michael Pulch, Associate Dean at the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific Stephan Fruehling, Macquarie University Security Studies and Criminology Professor Bates Gill, Aoyama Gakuin University Senior Resarch Fellow Akiko Fukushima, Head of the ANU National Security College Rory Medcalf, the University of Hong Kong School of Modern Languages and Culture's C. Roland Vogt, Australian Strategic Policy Institute Director of Defence and Strategy Michael Shoebridge, Shedden Professor of Strategic Policy Studies at the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific Evelyn Goh, International Institute for Strategic Studies Research Fellow Meia Nouwens, Carnegie India Associate Director Darshana Baruah, and the Asia-Pacific Research and Advice Network's (#APRAN) Garima Mohan.

Session 1 was entitled 'The Indo-Pacific: Australian Foreign Policy White Paper and the EU's global strategy, enhanced EU security and defence cooperation - areas of common interests and joint action'. Session 2 was entitled 'Connectivity - Regional (quad countries + ASEAN) and the EU's approached: How many belts and roads?
