AIIA National Conference 2017: Foreign Policy in an Uncertain World

The ANU Centre for European Studies is a proud sponsor of the Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) National Conference, Australia’s premier event on Australian foreign policy. The 2017 conference will bring together some of Australia’s leading international affairs experts. Building on the success of last year’s event, which drew a sellout crowd of more than 380 attendees and received overwhelmingly positive reviews (see here), the 2017 conference will provide a unique opportunity to hear and engage directly with experts on Australia’s international affairs, including:

  • The Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs
  • Senator The Hon Penny Wong, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs
  • Senator Richard Di Natale, Leader, The Australian Greens
  • The Hon Kim Beazley AC FAIIA, AIIA National President
  • Dr Tobias Feakin, Ambassador for Cyber Affairs
  • Tom Switzer, Presenter on the ABC's Radio National and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies
  • Linda Jakobson, CEO and Founding Director of China Matters
  • Gordon Flake, CEO of the Perth USAsia Centre
  • Senator The Hon Lisa Singh, Senator for Tasmania
  • Mukund Narayanamurti, CEO of Asialink Business
  • Dr Joanne Wallis, Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, ANU
  • Professor Andrew Walter, International Relations, University of Melbourne
  • Thom Woodroofe, Founder of Global Voices

In previous years tickets have sold quickly, so don’t hesitate and miss the opportunity to attend this important annual event.

The 2017 national conference will be preceded by masterclasses for young professionals and tertiary students between the ages of 18 and 40. The 2017 masterclasses will be held on Sunday 15 October with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The masterclasses enable motivated young people to engage one-on-one with AIIA Fellows who are leading figures in Australian international affairs. The overriding criterion for the selection of our Fellows is a very high level of distinction in and distinguished contribution to Australia’s international relations.

Four masterclass sessions will be available to choose from:

  • Professor James Cotton FAIIA, Emeritus Professor, UNSW Canberra, Australian Defence Force Academy
