Peter Tesch, ANUCES Visiting Fellow, recently retired after over 35 years in the Australian federal public service. Peter was Deputy Secretary for Strategy, Policy, and Industry in the Department of Defence from 2019 to 2022. During his career in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, he served as Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Ambassador to Germany, and Head of the International Security Division. He also served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York.

Denise Fisher, ANUCES Visiting fellow, former Australian diplomat for thirty years where she served in missions in Rangoon, Nairobi, New Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, Washington DC, as well as a position as Australian Consul-General to New Caledonia.

Matt Qvortrup is Chair of Political Science at Coventry University and a Visiting Professor of Constitutional Law at ANU College of Law. Described by the BBC as “the world’s leading expert on referendums,” he is editor-in-chief of European Political Science Review and an authority on democracy, British and European politics
