Schuman Lecture - EU–Australia: A Global Alliance  for Trade

In this year’s Schuman Lecture, the European Commissioner for Trade Dr Cecilia Malmström will explore the opportunities offered by an EU–Australia Free Trade Agreement, and how this relationship will help strengthen the global trading system.

Dr Cecilia Malmström is a Swedish politician who has served as European Commissioner for Trade since 2014, having previously served as European Commissioner for Home Affairs, 2010–14. In her current position, she represents the EU in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and other international trade fora. She is also responsible for negotiating bilateral trade agreement with key countries, including the forthcoming negotiations with Australia. Dr Malmström served as a Member of the European Parliament, 1999–2006, and as Swedish Minister for European Union Affairs, 2006–10. She is a member of the Liberal People’s Party, represented by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the European Parliament. Dr Malmström holds a PhD in Political Science from the Department of Political Science at Göteborg University.
