Qualifications: Bachelor of Economics (Honours Government), University of Sydney 1966.

Short Biography: Donald Kenyon is a former Australian Ambassador the GATT/WTO in Geneva from 1993 to 1996 and Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg from 1997 to 2000. Assoc Prof Kenyon was a senior trade negotiator for the Australian Government with many years experience in bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations. In Geneva, he served as Chairman of the Cairns Group of agricultural exporting countries during the Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations. In 1995, he also served as the first chairman on the new WTO Dispute Settlement Body which was an integral part of the outcome of the Uruguay Round negotiations package. Mr Kenyon retired from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in October 2001. Since 2002, he has been associated with the Centre for European Studies at the Australian National University.

Research Interests: Assoc Prof Kenyon’s research interests focus on trade policy issues. Most of his work at the ANUCES revolves around developing research and proposals for workshops and seminars aimed at facilitating a closer trade and economic partnership between Australia and the EU that would be to the mutual benefit of both sides.

Current Research Projects: Associate Professor Kenyon is currently a chief investigator in the ARC funded linkage research project entitled ‘’Australia and the European Union: A study of a changing trade and business relationship’’. Linkage partners in the project are; the Delegation of the European Union in Australia, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science Research and Tertiary Education (DIISR), the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and the European Australian Business Council (EABC). The project is funded for three years and runs through 2012.
